CODEX COMMITTEE - Report of the Sixth Session of the FAO/WHO Coordinating Committee for the Near East (Hammamet, Tunisia)
The Sixth Session of the Codex Coordinating Committee for the Near East reached the following conclusions:
Matters for consideration by the 34th Session of the Codex Alimentarius Commission
Draft and Proposed Draft Standards and Related Texts for adoption at Steps 5/8 of the Procedure
The Coordinating Committee forwarded:
- Proposed Draft Regional Code of Practice for Street Vended Foods for adoption at Steps 5/8
- Proposed Draft Regional Standard for Harissa (Red Hot Pepper Paste) for adoption at Steps 5/8 and
- Proposed Draft Regional Standard for Halwa tehenia for adoption at Steps 5/8
Other matters for information
The Coordinating Committee:
- Agreed that the Members of the Region would consider the nomination of the Regional Coordinator at the Commission Session;
- Considered Activities 4.5 and 5.5 of the Strategic Plan 2008 – 2013 and the preparation of the Strategic Plan 2013 – 2018;
- Considered the following issues referred by the Commission: private standards; processed cheese; development of guidelines for traceability/products tracing; and options for physical working groups;
- Expressed its views on the Codex Trust Fund Mid-Term Review;
- Exchanged information on national food control systems, and consumer participation in food standard setting, use of Codex standards at national and regional level and nutritional issues within the region.
