SUPPLEMENTS - Adoption of Directive on Food Supplements

The following is an extract from the minutes of the 2429th Council meeting (Development) on 30 May 2002

The Council approved a Directive on the approximation of the laws of the Member States relating to food supplements, as amended by the European Parliament; which is thereby deemed to have been adopted by the Council and the European Parliament. (doc 8965/02, 7788/02, 7079/02, 12394/2/01). This Directive is aimed at maintaining both a high level of public health protection and the free circulation of products concerned by ensuring that food supplements are safe and bear adequate and appropriate labelling.
