ENFORCMENT - Revised Food Law Code Of Practice
The Food Standards Agency has published the revised Food Law Code of Practice (England), which comes into force today. Category: Food Hygiene Food Standards Port Health Action required A link is available at: https://www.food.gov.uk/enforcement/codes-of-practice/food-law-code-of-practice-2017
The main changes to the Code are summarised in the Annex [see link below] to this letter, but primarily the Code has been amended in the following ways:
- Facilitate consistent interpretation and approach by local authority officers delivering official controls, specifically in relation to risk scoring; by updating advice and clarifying the risk descriptors used in the food establishment intervention rating schemes
- Provide additional guidance on the communication of food incidents and hazards, and addressing food criminality
- Further clarify qualification and competency requirements of local authority officers since the implementation of the previous Code revision.
- Streamline the document to improve readability
- Update links, terminology, and references to legislation.
The Code has been developed with help of stakeholders and was subject to full public consultation. The FSA will keep the Code under review and I would be grateful for feedback from LAs on its use.
The supporting Food Law Practice Guidance will be revised in the light of the changes to the Food Law Code of Practice.
